The Oshiwara Police registered a case against eight people on Thursday, February 16, for allegedly attacking young Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw’s friend’s car outside a five-star hotel in Mumbai after the young opener refused to take a selfie for the second time with two people.
According to a complaint filed by Shaw’s friend Ashish Surendra Yadav, the suspect chased the car and then attacked it with baseball bats, threatening to file false charges if he didn’t pay while Shaw was inside. In a statement, the Mumbai Police said that a case has been registered against eight people.

The accused gave chase to a car in which they believed Prithvi Shaw was leaving the hotel – Official
According to a police official on Thursday, the trouble started when eight suspects gathered around Shaw in the early hours of the morning at a luxury hotel and demanded photos. Prithvi Shaw complied with some of their requests but denied them when they became excessive.
“The accused got angry after the hotel manager asked them to vacate the premises. Soon the accused gave chase to a car in which they believed the cricketer was leaving the hotel. However, a friend of the cricketer was travelling in it,” he said.
“Near Jogeshwari Link Road, the accused attacked the car and broke its windscreen. They also demanded Rs 50,000 as extortion for not naming the car occupant in a fake case. The car occupant drove to Oshiwara police station and registered a complaint,” he added.
After more than 18 months, Prithvi Shaw was selected in the Indian squad for the T20I series against New Zealand last month. He didn’t get a chance in the starting XI for three matches. Shaw will next be seen in action in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 for the Delhi Capitals (DC). Prithvi Shaw scored 283 runs at a strike rate of 152.97 in 10 games last year, including a few half-centuries.
