“He Is Probably The Most Deserving Bowler From Indian Domestic Cricket” – Dinesh Karthik On Jaydev Unadkat

The 37-year-old India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has stated that the 31-year-old Saurashtra left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat is “probably the most deserving bowler from Indian domestic cricket”.

The seasoned left-arm speedster Jaydev Unadkat has been called up to India’s Test squad in Bangladesh as a replacement for Mohammed Shami, who has been ruled out of the series due to a shoulder injury.

This is Unadkat’s just second call-up to the Test squad, which has come after 12 long years. He made his Test debut in the first Test of the 2010-11 tour of South Africa, where he went wicketless and conceded 101 runs in 26 overs.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Karthik said that Unadkat’s comeback story is absolutely heartwarming. He added that the selection of domestic cricket giant Jaydev Unadkat is “highly justified”. He stated:

“Unadkat, an absolutely heart-warming story. He is probably the most deserving bowler from Indian domestic cricket in the last couple of years. To get the number of wickets that he has got, led the team so well. There has been a lot of talk about selections made, but this one is highly justified. He might not play this series, but the fact that he has been rewarded matters the most.”

The last year hasn’t gone well for him – Dinesh Karthik on Cheteshwar Pujara

While talking about the veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara, Karthik said that he hasn’t been able to perform very well in the last 12 months. He said:

“Pujara is someone who has been around the team for a long time now. The last year hasn’t gone well for him.”

The Uttar Pradesh left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar is in line to replace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in the squad for the Bangladesh Test series. While talking about Saurabh Kumar, Karthik said that he is a special player. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter said:

“Saurabh Kumar, I remember playing him and getting stumped. The ball dipped on me, and I thought he has something special in him. Year on year, he is getting better. He is arguably, on a flat wicket, the best left-arm spinner in India. He is a traditional left-arm spinner, who relies on dip.”
