“It Is One Step At A Time” – Rahul Dravid Opens Up On India’s Battle Plan To Qualify For ICC WTC 2021-23 Final

India National Cricket Team head coach Rahul Dravid has opened up on India’s battle plan to qualify for the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 final, saying that they are focusing on one match at a time.

India National Cricket Team are currently in the fourth position on the WTC points table, which is led by Australia National Cricket Team. India still have six games left in the ongoing cycle of the ICC World Test Championship and they will have to win a majority of the games to qualify for the WTC final for the second consecutive time.

If India emerge victorious in each of their remaining six games, their percentage will rise to 68.06, which will be enough for a top-two finish. If they lose one and win five matches, their percentage shall be at 62.5, which also will be enough for the qualification.

Speaking in a video shared on BCCI.tv, India head coach Rahul Dravid said that they will take one step at a time and will not look too far ahead.

“It is one step at a time. I don’t think we can start looking at the sixth one before we start here. We have got to win this one first. We have to play our best cricket to give ourselves a chance and then go to Dhaka and replicate. Just take it as we go,” said Dravid in an interview on BCCI.tv.

Rahul Dravid admitted that winning the majority of the games to qualify for the WTC final will be a big challenge for the side. He added that first they’ll have to focus on the ongoing two-match Test series against Bangladesh and after the series gets finished, they will make plans about the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 against Australia.

“We know we have a challenge in our hands, we have to win a majority of the games we have left in the championship. But we are not going to get there if we don’t take the first steps well. We have to focus on this one and then see how the cards fall and then we will see what we have to do in the series against Australia,” said Dravid.

Talking about the first Test between India and Bangladesh, in the first innings of the match, India posted 404 runs on the board with the help of good half-centuries by Cheteshwar Pujara, Shreyas Iyer, and Ravichandran Ashwin. Also, Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav contributed good 40s.

Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav bagged a 5-wicket haul, Mohammed Siraj picked up 3 wickets while Axar Patel and Umesh Yadav bagged one wicket each to bowl out Bangladesh for 150 in the second innings of the match.
