The Ranji Trophy Match between Railways & Punjab was being played at Karnail Singh Stadium in Delhi. There was a lot of uneven bounce and on the 1st day of the match, a total of 24 wickets fell, out of which 20 wickets were by taken the speedsters.
It won’t be wrong to say that the pitch became a minefield where scoring was not at all easy. Punjab was bundled out for 162 runs in the 1st innings whereas Railways got folded for 150 runs. in response to that Punjab lost 4 wickets and managed to score 18 runs before the end of Day 1.

Railways vs Punjab Match to Restart
The umpires have decided to restart the match stating that the pitch is dangerous & unsafe for the batters. The railway team Official was having an interaction with media and made interesting comments on the pitch. “They could have repaired the surface and resumed on the third day from where the match was stopped, but the match officials decided to play on a fresh surface. We were in a fantastic position but will possibly lose out on a chance to win because of this decision.” said Railway Official.

“The pitch was uneven. Some balls hit the gloves, others scooted low at shoe-height from the same spot. It was a green wicket but the match officials decided it was too uneven and inconsistent for play to continue.” said a player.
Concerns for Karnail Singh Stadium
The Karnail Stadium has been receiving a lot of criticism as their surfaces have been termed poor. In 2012, Karnail Stadium was banned from hosting matches for a period of 2 years as the committee had found that the curators deliberately made a spicy wicket for helping Railways.
It won’t be wrong to say that due to such pitches, a batter’s morale gets down as we all know that in India there’s cut-throat competition for spots. This Ranji Trophy season is quite pivotal as for players like Sarfaraz Khan & Ajinkya Rahane as the duo would be keen to play in Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 in February.
