Sunrisers Eastern Cape Rope In Temba Bavuma After His Brilliant Performance vs England

The 32-year-old South Africa National Cricket Team limited-overs captain Temba Bavuma has finally managed to bag the SA20 deal following his impressive performance in the three-match ODI series against England National Cricket Team at home.

Bavuma, despite being the captain of the national team, was not picked by any of the six franchises at the SA20 2023 auction, which was held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in South Africa, for the inaugural edition of CSA’s T20 league.

After going unsold at the auction, Temba Bavuma had expressed his disappointment and said that he was expecting to play a part in the CSA’s T20 league. He had set his base price at Rand 850,000 (US$48,000 approx).

“I felt down when I wasn’t picked in the auction. I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t have any feelings of disappointment. I certainly was expecting to get a role in the tournament. And it’s not just myself, it’s family as well who are so disappointed,” Bavuma said after going unsold at the auction.

Temba Bavuma, however, performed really well in South Africa’s 2-1 ODI series win over England, which has helped him bag the SA20 deal at Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

He is set to replace England’s Tom Abell, who will be joining England Lions, in the squad. SEC took to Twitter to announce the inclusion of Bavuma in the squad for the remainder of the tournament.

Bavuma showed his big hitting in the series against England and finished the series as South Africa’s leading run-scorer, with 180 runs in his bag, which was his most successful as an ODI batter.

Temba Bavuma scored his runs at an amazing average of 60.00 and an impressive strike rate of 114.64. He played a top-class knock in the second ODI, smashing a match-winning century in Bloemfontein.

The 32-year-old, who has faced heavy criticism for his inability to play big shots, smashed 23 fours and three sixes on two of the biggest grounds in South Africa in Bloemfontein and Kimberley.
