Twitter reactions: Shreyas Iyer, Cheteshwar Pujara lead India fightback on Day 1 of 1st Test versus Bangladesh

After the early setbacks on the opening day of the first Test against Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Team India recovered well, thanks to gritty knocks by Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer.

The tourists, after opting to bat first, had a terrible start as they lost three wickets for just 48 inside the 20 overs. Then Pujara, along with Rishabh Pant, tried to steady the innings, adding a crucial stand of 64 runs for the fourth wicket.

Just when the visitors were looking to put pressure back on the hosts, Mehidy Hasan came up with a ripper and clean bowled Pant for a well-made 46 off 45 deliveries, including 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Pujara continued tickling the scoreboard and was well supported by Iyer as the duo led India’s recovery. The batting pair ended up forming a brilliant partnership of 149 runs for the fifth wicket. Both Pujara and Iyer smashed their respective half-centuries and were looking comfortable to take India to the stumps without any further damage.

But Taijul Islam, who did an incredible job for Bangladesh throughout the opening day, trimmed down India’s momentum by dismissing the well-set Pujara for 90. The tourists lost Axar Patel (14) on the last ball of the day to finish at 278/6 in 90 overs, with Iyer remaining unbeaten at 82 off 169 deliveries.
