Zimbabwe Fielding Coach Shepherd Makunura Passes Away After Long Illness

Zimbabwe Cricket Team has been dealt with a massive blow as the fielding coach Shepherd Makunura is no more. The Cricketer was admitted to West End Hospital in Harare. Earlier due to illness, he missed the T20 World Cup for Zimbabwe in October- November 2022.

The Cricketer was a vital part of the national team. Under his tenure, Zimbabwe defeated Bangladesh in T20I & ODI Series and made them a force to reckon with. Zimbabwe had a decent T20 World Cup where they upset mighty Pakistan and made a statement that they are not a finished product.

Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director on Shepherd Makunura

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) Managing Director Givemore Makoni on Shepherd Makunura. “We have lost one of our very best coaches, an unsung hero of our game who has been instrumental in the unearthing and nurturing of many of Zimbabwe’s talented players.said Makoni.

“We are grateful for his immense contributions to the sport in Zimbabwe and beyond and the void that he has left will be hard to fill.”  he added.

Shepherd Makunura an Asset

Tadiwanashe Marumani, the Cricketer took to social media handle and paid tribute to Makunura. “Sad to hear of the passing of coach Sheppy. May his soul rest in peace. Big up to all the memories and chances given,” he tweeted.

The Cricketer was the Mentor of Masvingo-based Southern Rocks. During his stint, he worked with Sikandar Raza, Blessing Muzurabani & Roy Kaia. He was also the Head  Coach of Zimbabwe A National Team.
