Chelsea confirm Fernandez deal – Soccer News

[ad_1]

Chelsea Football Club have confirmed the signing of Enzo Fernandez for a record-breaking British transfer fee of £106.8 million.

It’s a transfer that has been in the pipeline for a while and now, it’s finally been announced. The 22-year-old star, who was able to shine in the World Cup, was being pursued by the Blues throughout the January window.

The fee listed surpasses the £100 million that Manchester City paid for Jack Grealish, which was the previous British transfer record.

Fernandez signed for Benfica last summer for a fee believed to be worth around £10 million. Now, he’s signed an incredible eight-and-a-half-year deal that could keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2031.

The transfer policy of Chelsea has, as of late, been called into question. Some wonder how they’re abiding by FFP regulations, whereas others feel as if they’re panicking by throwing so much money around.

Either way, though, a lot of eyes are going to be on Fernandez for the rest of the season.
