It’s always tempting when we arrive at an FPL double gameweek to take huge points hits in order to get key players on board, without planning further ahead. So, which double Gameweek 20 assets make good long-term transfers?

Manchester City’s defence is always a key area to cover in FPL, but finding a guaranteed starter has been a challenge in recent weeks. Joao Cancelo has seemingly lost his place, with Nathan Ake and John Stones the only constants in their Premier League fixtures since the restart. City have kept seven clean sheets this season. 

Stones should now be the go-to target from this City defence who have conceded no big chances on their goal since the restart and have been unlucky to concede two goals. Stones has had two shots in the box during this time and has two assists for the season so far. He has scored five goals in the last two seasons in the Premier League.

Luke Shaw is the highest-scoring player in FPL since the restart three gameweeks ago, with three clean sheets, one goal and eight bonus points. Manchester United have had the fixtures on their side but look to be defensively sound, conceding one goal in all competitions since the World Cup break and conceding just one big chance on their goal in the league.

With United now in form and with more potential double gameweeks rumoured on the way, it’s a great time to jump on board their assets. Diogo Dalot has some lingering injury concerns on the opposite flank, so Shaw is the go-to defensive asset right now. 

While many of our premium assets have disappointed us since the restart, including Mohamed Salah, Kevin De Bruyne and Son Heung-min, Harry Kane has been the one constant and has even eclipsed Erling Haaland in recent games. While there’s jeopardy in giving him the armband this week, a move to make him your second premium is now wise.

Spurs play their 19th game of the season against Arsenal, so if Kane can get through that game without picking up a yellow card, the threshold will then rise to ten yellow cards. With 19 attacking returns in his first 18 games of the season, he could eclipse his tally of 37 attacking returns for the season, which he achieved in the 2020/21 season.
