Man United: Imagine Fernandes and Osimhen

[ad_1]

Manchester United‘s latest triumph away to Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup saw midfield maestro Bruno Fernandes reach an impressive milestone in his Red Devils career, with the Portuguese’s late strike ensuring he now has 100 goal involvements in 155 appearances for the club to date.

That remarkable record signifies the stunning impact that the 28-year-old has made at Old Trafford since his £46.6m switch from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, having emerged as the real creative hub of the side in recent years.

That playmaking prowess has been notably evident so far this term as the one-time Udinese man has already created 14 big chances in the Premier League alone, with that tally only bettered by Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier (16) and Manchester City talisman, Kevin De Bruyne (20).

The fact that such relentless and reliable service has only led to four top-flight assists, however, has illustrated that the 53-cap gem may well be in need of a more clinical presence ahead of him to finish off that plethora of openings that the midfielder can provide.

One potential solution to that problem could well lie in the form of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, with ESPN recently reporting that the Nigerian international is on United’s list of summer targets.

Transfer insider Dean Jones – speaking to GIVEMESPORT – has since suggested that it could take as much as £100m if Erik ten Hag and co are to sign the 24-year-old, or Tottenham Hotspur‘s Harry Kane, at the end of the season.

The respected source stated: “Do they want the finished product in a Harry Kane that’s going to cost them £100m, or do they want Osimhen, who’s probably still got a bit of potential to get to, also costing the same sort of money as Harry Kane?”.

The former Lille man has, however, warranted such a price tag due to his scintillating form in Italy of late, having proven that he could well be the perfect partner to Fernandes in attack.

The clinical “monster” – as described by journalist Raj Chohan – boasts a tally of 13 goals in just 15 Serie A games this season, with his overall tally for the club standing at 42 goals in just 81 games in all competitions to date.

The goalscoring phenom is clearly something of an old-school, number nine due to his single-minded desire to get on the scoresheet, with that evidenced by the fact that he ranks in the top 8% in Europe among those in his position for touches in the attacking penalty area.

As such, the 6 foot 1 menace could well be the ideal man to feed off Fernandes’ wicked deliveries into the box – either from the flanks or a more central berth – with that duo having the makings of a truly monstrous partnership for Ten Hag moving forward.
