Nottingham Forest offered Andre Ayew

Nottingham Forest have reportedly been offered the chance to land free agent, Andre Ayew, with the Ghana international having previously worked under Steve Cooper at Swansea City.

What’s the word?

According to Sky Sports, the Garibaldi – as well as fellow Premier League side Everton – are believed to have been handed the opportunity to sign the 33-year-old, with the 113-cap menace having left his former club Al Sadd earlier this month.

The report suggests that despite Cooper being keen on securing a reunion with the one-time West Ham United man, the City Ground outfit do not have ‘enough room’ in the current squad for the playmaking veteran.

Cooper’s next Gibbs-White

The Forest boss was no doubt open to the idea of working with a player who previously thrived under his tutelage at the Liberty Stadium, with the experienced forward having scored 35 goals and provided 12 assists in 94 games during Cooper’s time in charge.

The one-time Marseille man was particularly impressive during the 2020/21 campaign, having scored 17 goals and provided four assists to help guide the Welsh outfit to the Championship play-off final, only to be defeated by Thomas Frank’s Brentford in the showpiece.

Would you want Ayew at Forest?

No, not convinced

No, not convinced

Yes, absolutely!

Yes, absolutely!

Cooper has clearly shown a fondness for reuniting with players during his time in Nottingham thus far, having already brought in Morgan Gibbs-White in the recent past, after previously coaching the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man during his time in charge with the Swans, as well as in the England youth set-up.

The Welshman may well have been hoping to utilise such connections again to get Ayew through the door, with the signing of the aforementioned Gibbs-White having already proven fruitful thus far, as the 22-year-old has swiftly become a leading figure for Forest since his summer switch.

The dynamic forward has been “worth every penny“, according to journalist Ethan Lamb, despite his rather hefty £25m transfer fee, having already provided six goal contributions in just 19 top-flight games so far this season.

The hope would have been to replicate that “bargain” capture – as lauded by journalist Callum Castel – by snapping up another familiar face in the form of Ayew, albeit with it looking as if Cooper will have to rely on his current attacking options for the remainder of the season.
