Spurs: Paratici handed Kessie boost

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a boost in their bid to bring Franck Kessie to north London in the January transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Spanish publication Sport (via Sport Witness), who claim that, following a number of recent reports linking Spurs with a move for the midfielder, Barcelona ‘would welcome a loan or transfer’ bid for the 25-year-old this winter.

This is sure to come as a huge boost to Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte, who are reportedly willing to make a loan offer for the Ivory Coast international which would also include an option to purchase the former AC Milan sensation permanently next summer.

“Dream signing”

Kessie’s summer move to Barcelona has not turned out as he would have hoped, with the 25-year-old having started just two La Liga fixtures so far for the Catalan giants. However, considering the astonishing form the midfielder displayed during his time in Italy, it is easy to see why Paratici and Conte would be keen on a move for the Ivorian next month.

Indeed, the £51.5m-rated talent particularly impressed over his 37 Serie A appearances back in 2020/21, bagging 13 goals, providing four assists and creating five big chances for his side. He also took 1.3 shots, made 0.8 key passes and completed 1.2 dribbles (at a success rate of 80%) per fixture.

The £150k-per-week midfielder also caught the eye in metrics more typically associated with his position, making 1.4 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.3 clearances and winning 5.2 duels (53% success rate) per game, along with playing 2.8 long balls and completing 47.9 passes (at a success rate of 89%) per match.

Tottenham fans, can you get 100% on this Spurs World Cup transfer quiz?

Question 1. Scorer of one of England’s quarter-final goals in the 2018 World Cup, how much did Dele Alli cost Spurs back in 2015?

These metrics saw the player who Ryan Haber dubbed both “absolutely unreal” and a “dream signing” average a quite breathtaking Sofascore match rating of 7.18. That ranked him not only as Milan’s third-best performer in the league but also as the joint 26th-best player in Serie A as a whole that season.

As such, if Conte believes he can help Kessie rediscover this level of form following a potential move to north London in the January transfer window, it is quite easy to understand why the 53-year-old would be keen on a move for the midfield destroyer, who would very much appear to be something of a dream signing for the Spurs manager.
