West Ham: Moyes interested in En-Nesyri

West Ham United remain interested in a deal to bring Youssef En-Nesyri to the London Stadium in the January transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to Pete O’Rourke, with the journalist revealing in a recent interview with GIVEMESPORT that, having been heavily linked with a move for the Sevilla FC centre-forward over the last 12 months, David Moyes is likely to once again be keen on a swoop for the 25-year-old this winter.

However, O’Rourke went on to suggest that, considering the striker’s remarkable World Cup campaign with Morocco, it would seem highly probable that the Hammers will not be the only club interested in the former CD Leganés hitman – who the Irons reportedly submitted a €40m (£34.5m) bid for last summer – in the January market.

Regarding the future of the Morocco international, the journalist said: “He’s been a long-term target for West Ham, they have struggled for goals again this season. Michail Antonio has not been as free-scoring while [Gianluca] Scamacca is still adapting to the Premier League.

“But for En-Nesyri, I think his performances at the World Cup for Morocco are just going to increase competition for his services, and there’ll be more than just West Ham who might be interested in him.”

Antonio replacement

While it is undeniable that Antonio has been a fantastic servant to West Ham over the years – becoming the club’s all-time Premier League top goalscorer with 58 to his name – considering just how poor the 32-year-old has been in the current campaign – bagging just two over 14 league outings – it is not difficult to see why Moyes would be keen on a move for En-Nesyri.

Indeed, the £21.5m-rated centre-forward has been one of Morocco’s star players over his five World Cup fixtures in Qatar, hitting the back of the net on two occasions – the eventual winner in a 2-1 victory over Canada and another winner in a 1-0 defeat of Portugal – as well as taking an average of one shot and winning 5.4 duels – at a success rate of 57% – per game.

These returns have seen the £106k-per-week forward average an extremely impressive Sofascore match rating of 7.04, currently ranking him as Walid Regragui’s seventh-best performer in the tournament, playing a crucial role in Morocco becoming the first-ever African side to reach the semi-finals of the competition.

Furthermore, the 25-year-old more than proved over his 38 LaLiga appearances back in 2020/21 that he has what it takes to hit the back of the net and create chances on a regular basis in domestic football, bagging a simply sensational 18 goals and creating a futher six big chances for his teammates, in addition to taking an average of 2.1 shots per match.

West Ham's Declan Rice

When was the last time West Ham had an England player go to a World Cup?

As such, should Moyes be able to get a deal over the line for the player who Aaron West dubbed an “unreal” finisher in January, it would indeed appear as if the Scot could have landed his dream successor to Antonio at the London Stadium, with En-Nesyri very much looking to be something of a perfect partner to Scamacca in the Hammers’ attacking arsenal.
