PAK vs ENG: “England Have Given Pakistan A Reality Check, Exposing Them By Showing Them Their Place In Test Cricket”

England defeated the Men in Green by 26 runs in the second Test at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Monday to clinch the series with a match to spare and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt believes that the Test series loss against England is a wake-up call for the future of red-ball cricket.

Chasing 355 runs for victory, Pakistan put up a brave fight but were bowled out for 328 runs in the second session on the fourth day of the match. It was their third consecutive home Test defeat, following a loss to Australia earlier this year. England won their first series in Pakistan since 2000-01, with Mark Wood taking four wickets for 65 runs.

They Did Not Have To Put In A Lot Of Effort – Salman Butt

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Butt said that the Babar Azam-led side failed to show fight in the first two games of the three-match series. The former Pakistan batsman said that England gave Pakistan a reality check by showing their position in the Tests.

“England have given Pakistan a reality check, exposing them by showing them their place in Test cricket. The sad part is that England did not even have to play a painstaking match to win. They did not have to put in a lot of effort. It has been a one-sided affair, with them winning fairly easily.”

England Gave Us 32–33 Themselves – Salman Butt

Butt went on to say that the hosts have been underwhelming with the ball in the Test series, failing to pose a serious threat to the English batters. Butt claimed that only Abrar Ahmed had picked up wickets due to his ability.

“If you assess Pakistan’s performance in an honest manner, only Abrar Ahmed’s wickets were the ones that they took. Then there was one that Haris Rauf took.”

“Apart from that, all the other wickets came due to England’s intent and attacking approach. Out of the 40 wickets, England gave us 32–33 themselves, and we can only take credit for the remaining ones.”

Abrar Ahmed made an impressive debut in the second Test against England and was the best bowler of the match for the hosts with 11 wickets. The leg-spinner shone for his home team Sindh in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy last month and earned a place in the Test squad for the England series.
